Week of June 3-7, 2013
I cannot believe it is the last week of school already. I have enjoyed working with the children this year!
In the Kindergarten Groups we will have Skippy Jon Jones Day on Monday! The other days we will have a variety of games that review spelling and reading CVC and Sight Words.
In the First Grade Groups we will have a variety of games that review spelling and reading Long Vowel Words and Sight Words.
In the Second Grade Groups we will have a variety of games that review spelling and reading words with Vowel Teams.
Have a wonderful and restful summer. Please let me know if you need any suggestions to keep your child busy with reading, spelling, and writing over the summer!

Week of May 27-31, 2013
In the Kindergarten Groups, we will be reviewing how to read and spell CVC words, sentence structure and middle vowel sounds. Our last assessment will be on Friday 5/31/13. Please look at the blogs from the previous weeks for examples to practice!
In the First Grade Groups, we are going to do a quick unit on long-consonant-silent e words. Words to practice reading and spelling are: dime, home, Pete, fire, lime, cake, cape, joke, tube. We only have two trick words to practice which are: nothing, does. Our assessment on this quick Unit 14 is Friday 5/31/13.
On the Second Grade Groups, we are wrapping up Unit 15, on words with ue, oo, ew and ou. Our assessment on this unit will be Friday 5/31/13. Please look at the blog from the previous week for examples to practice!
Hope everyone had a wonderful 3 day weekend! We have two more weeks of school, so I know the students are getting excited, but please let your child know that we still have learning to do!

Week of May 20-24, 2013
In the Kindergarten Groups, we will continue working on reading and spelling CVC words, sight words, and sentences. We will also work on identifying the middle vowel sounds in CVC words also. Refer to last weeks post for words to practice reading and spelling.
In the First Grade Groups, we will wrap up Unit 11 which concentrates on double syllable and compound words, along with the sight (trick)words. Refer to last weeks post for words to practice reading and spelling. Our assessment will be on Friday, May 24, 2013.
In the Second Grade Groups, we will concentrate on our last unit of the year, which is Unit 15. This unit is about the sounds of /ow/, /oo/, /ew/, and /ue/. Words to practice reading and spelling are: scoop, group, due, broom. Our trick words for this week are: January, February and July.
REMINDER: Monday, May 27, 2013 is Memorial Day. This is a holiday for students and staff, so there is NO SCHOOL!

In the Kindergarten groups, we will be reviewing CVC words, along with middle vowel sounds. Some words to practice spelling, reading and identifying the middle vowel sounds are: cat, bug, web, pig, mop, tap, cut, jet, fit.
In the First Grade groups, we will keep on reviewing double syllable and compound words in Unit 11. Words to keep on practicing (spelling and reading) are: dentist, catfish, expect, insist, public, picnic, napkin, absent. Please keep on reviewing our trick (sight) words also, which are: people, Mr., Mrs., year, says, little.
In the Second Grade groups, we will wrap up Unit 14, with the sounds of /ou/ and /ow/. Words to practice spelling and reading are: shower, boyscout, couch, power, shower, cloudy, frowned. Please keep on reviewing our trick (sight) words also, which are: Wednesday, Saturday, Thursday, bought, library, piece.

Week of May 6-10, 2013
I will have to test all students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade this week for the end of the year benchmark assessment. I will resume my regular schedule of pulling the students the week of May 13th. I will certainly miss my friends this week, and please continue to work on concepts that were taught the week of April 29th.

Week of April 29-May 3, 2013
In the Kindergarten groups we will be going over the word family-ub. Practice reading and spelling words such as cub, flub, hub, nub, rub, sub, tub. We also started reviewing sentence structure this past Friday, so practice that with your kids. Practice reading and writing sentence. Some examples are: The cat sat on the mat. A dog is on a log.

Don't forget to practice reading and spelling our trick words (sight words): called, down, many, before, how, each.
In the Second Grade Groups we will wrap up Unit 13 (long o: oa,oe, ow, o-e) and concentrate on double syllable words. Words to practice reading and spelling are: explode, window, below, toaster, roadblock, snowstorm, charcoal. Don't forget to practice reading and spelling our trick words (sight words): Monday, Tuesday, cousin, lose, dance, beautiful.
